Security Requirements for Catering Trailers

It is important to make sure that your catering trailer is properly secure. Not only do you not want it to get stolen, but you want to ensure that you are complying to your insurers requirements.

When not being towed or driven, your trailer should be immobilised at all times.

If theft cover is required on your catering trailer then we may ask you to have the following items fitted:

Hitch-Locks
The hitch-lock must be key operated and the key must have a unique key number. The hitch- lock must be manufactured to British Standards.

Wheel-Clamps
The wheel-clamp must be manufactured to British Standards. Trailers with hydraulic suspension may be acceptable without a hitch-lock and/or wheel- clamp. Please contact Mobilers on 0845 130 4555 for more details.

Driveway Security Posts
For trailers kept at home, a discount will be offered for driveways protected with a security post.

Thiefbeaters
Thiefbeaters involve applying a unique comprehensive identification including electronic transponders and microdots to hidden and visible locations on the trailer. Each trailer is meticulously identified in up to 50 locations by various techniques and each location of the unique thiefbeater number is recorded. A record of the entire ID is kept along with six digital photographs. Furthermore, a registration document is produced, complete with two colour photographs of each trailer. One copy of the registration document is provided to the owner and another to us.

With a 24 hour database service, any police force can make necessary enquiries. A prospective purchaser of a trailer with a thiefbeaters marking can also enquire to ensure the trailer is not reported stolen prior to any purchase.

Tracking Device
In most instances, stolen trailers are very difficult to recover.

Tracking systems work via an electronic homing device which, when activated, emits a silent signal to dedicated equipment fitted in police cars and helicopters of every force in the UK.

A discount is offered on all trailer insurance premiums where one of these devices is fitted.
